PUPUL

They call me PULPUL, but my name is Roberto. I did not grow in up Vallecas contrary to popular belief. I was born in Madrid, and I grew up in a poor neighbourhood called BELMONTE, a source of great memories of my boyhood. We did not have much money in our house, but I would not change anything of my infancy, I had the best parents in the world, the best pals and even great neighbours. Indeed, I had everything but money. I have a lot to thank the people of Vallecas for.
My musical inclinations began at the age of 12. I amaze like a dwarf with the music of the Leño. Later came Barricade, LA POLLA, Kortatu e.g... I made the decision to learn how to play an instrument. First I asked my mother for a drum set, but there was no money at home for such a luxury. Some how I was able buy myself an electric guitar, a arrow shaped Talmus heavier than death, but for me it was a motherfucker of a guitar. I spent all fucking day playing the guitar, learning the songs of Leño, Eskorbuto and above all LA POLLA RECORDS. Later Pipi bought another guitar and together with PONY, GELETE and CARLOS, we began to compose our own songs. At the time we used Pipi's father's workplace to rehearse until we got thrown out because the ceiling started cracking.

When I was 18 I played and sang in a group called EROTICA, founded by Carlos, Javi, Benja and myself, and the truth is that we did pretty well, we won two contests, "Village of Vallecas" and "Contest of young musicians of Ciudad Lineal" . (A HUG TO CARLOS, BENJA AND JAVI).
Later I began to sing in different bands, almost all of them were hard rock bands, and for a while I was even a soloist singer, but frankly, that did not convince me at all. I did like the punk Rocker of LA POLLA, the combative ska of Kortatu, and the realistic lyrics and commitment that speak truths like fists, the fucking truth which always scandalize people when they hear it. Finally, Pakito, Toni, Kogote, Julio and myself made the decision to form a ska combative band, we called it SKA-P. (the name was Pakito's idea).
I took two songs to our local rehearsal to play, one of them was very important for the beginnings of the band, "LIKE A RAY", a song dedicated to fans of a football team, El Rayo Vallecano. That became a great success, in the first place because it was a hell of fun for all of us, and in the second place, and more importantly, because we believed in it, we were not pretending.

I fell lucky for doing what I like to do and I make my beans with it, what else can you ask for?. I'm antifascist, antiracist and vegetarian. I have a great respect for animals, so I don't eat them. You shouldn't eat meat, you will gain physical health and moral health as well.I won't keep telling you more about the band, you can read more about it in the History section but I would like to tell you just one more thing:I have the joy of a little girl, she is the greatest thing that's happened in my life.

LUISMI

HELLO, I AM LUISMI. Since I was a child I felt myself attracted to the music, I had my parents always giving me various instruments and encouraging me towards the music. I will always thank them for that.

In 1985 I had my summer vacations in a small village on the province of Cuenca ycalled Cuevas de Velasco, it was then when I took the decission to learn how to play the guitar during the up coming winter. After all I spent all these summer days listening my friend Dany (Malaga) playin the guitar. When I returned to my hometown, Madrid, I had a little money that Id managed to save working in a iron mill, so I bough a electric guitar, an imatation of the Fender Stratocaster. Sun afterwards I found myself playin in a rok band called Doberman from my neigthgoro (Orcasitas). I had a great time playin in that band.
Whay Id droped the gitarr and started to play the drums? The thing is, the drummer in the band quit an I though it was cool to play the drums my self. Dicho y echo. There was a problem, I had no dums set, but soon after I got enough money to buy what will become my passport to freedom. The drums gave me the freedom to improvise. Since then I had never stop playin with bands. I like to have a place where spend the evenings playin and having fun with my budies.

I never spent money to learn to play, I m a self taught, but I was looky to have friend that were great droomers, like Jose Galicia (Gali), who passed this year because of a serious illnes. He lef some of his soul in all of os who were looky to mee him, Victor Monje (son), and so.

My experience as musician tought me that we must make an effor for the thigs we love. If you belive in something you must pursue it with your hear and carry it on until the end of its consequeces.
Through these line I hope you knoy me a litter more, an I want to let you know you that here you have a friend.

JULIO

Hi, my name is Julio, I was born on May 17 of 1972. I began to play bass at the age of sixteen. I was on my own living with some pals, one afternoon while listening the music of BLACK SABBATH I got so impressed by the amazing sound of the bass that I took the decision to buy one. Back then my neighbor was always packed with musicians and bands. One day one of them, a friend of mine, decided to sell me one old bass, so I bough it. WHAT A GREAT MOMENT!!!

I began to play in home, first without an amp, then I saved some money and bought the amp. Afterward I get together with some pals that I knew they love to play. I played at home all day long, I love to play songs of other bands and it was how I learned to play the bass. Years later I met the members who today form SKA-P and we created the band.

JOXEMI

I was born in Pamplona May 25, l969 although I grew up in a village called Larraga, at the age of 11 I had in my hands a tape of The Beatles, since then I began to listen music at all the time. I began to listen the radio, also, some friends lend me some records and I don't exactly when but one day I saw the Ramones playing on the TV, (I believe it was in a show called Mucal Express). That event changed my way to perceive the music. Almost by that time I discovered the Six Pistols, The Clash, Dead Kennedys and from there on nothing will be the same for me. I was 13, not the football, neither boys games was meaningful for my, for me only punk rock, the rest fairy tale. Then my musical horizon where widened when I discovered the ska, afterward they came all of them: The Bad Manners, The Specials, The beat. I busted the musicians of the dancing bands asking them to teach me how to play ska. I think they fed of with me for a while.

Living in a small village it is hard to keep up to date with music, so the magazines, the catalog by mail, and the bat bi hiru of the newspaper Egin were the means by which we knew that the music was made not only en England and America. There were La polla, Kortatu, Los Cika, Potato, and Baldin Bada in Euskadi, and Decibelios en Barna. I went to listen to them quite often in auto-stop and occasionally I will engage some of my village to give me a ride. One day we get together and we decided to form a ska band called Virus Rebelión. We really had fun. After a few years we did a record called Skalerriapunk (1986). We played a lot for free so we did not make a lot of money, ultimately we disband.
keep playing and by 1990 we form another band in the village called Descarga. This band was more rok oriented, we got inspired by the Ramones, Sham 68, and even AC/DC among many others. In 1992 because of work related causes I left my village, my friends, and my family and all that until then were my world.

moved to Madrid and two years after we started a hardcore-metal band called Seth. After playing for two years through the pubs in Madrid the band dissolves. I went to see Rancid playing in the Elefante Balnco (Victoria) and when I was leaving I though, my good, what the fuck I was doing all these years away from the ska and the punk. When I went back to rehearsal place I saw a flayer looking for a guitar player for a ska-rock band. I showed up to the addiction with a couple of bottles of patxaran and I convinced them I was the men they need. I became part of the band and a few months after we recorded Vals del Obrero, after that everything is story.
Now my favorite bands are The Clash, Ramones, The Who, The Business , Sex Pistols, The Pogues, Dead Kennedys, the Damned, Specials, Desmond Dekker, and just to say some how thenew Rancid, Myghty Mygthy Bosstones, U.S. Bombs, Dropkick Murphys, Persiana Jones, Ruda salska, and so on.

Lately I am touring with an alternatives band that I created with Micky (ex-singer of the italians B.D.P). The music is kind of Punkrock, rock´n´roll,Oi! and Hardcore. A mixture of all our influences. In our web www.norelax.com you will find more information.

It wanted every certain time to add to things and anecdotas to this part of "nuestra" Web, little by little ire writing, the sensations and memories that I have of all those concerts that we have done from our beginnings, when we touched of teloneros, or ibamos all accumulated in furgona (good weathers, although something durillos) to arrange the musica with the work are something jodido, and that knows all those to it that have tried to make a group. But tubimos we luck, and now have gotten to touch in the unsuspected sites but in front of thousand and thousand of people, some paises have something make that their public is but, cañero, warm up, crazy person, and fanatic, clear this they know Chile, Mexico, Argentina to it, do that demas is its side paises are as meetings of monjitas. but is asi although some are bothered. In Europe people we are but calm in general, but you can touch but calm without knowledge that wrath the light, or that habra that to leave running at the end of the concert by any thing. In aim that I have many histories that to count, like member of SKA-P and which ire counting.... like? that when? good, good for waiting for a little that I must be writing.... until soon.

KOGOTE

I was born in Madrid, in April of 1972 exactly in the neighbor of La Latina, as a child I was raised in Carabanchel, and as a teenager I greu up with my cousins in Vallekas.

At very early age I listened to the music, but it was a when I was 12 when I began to discover it, I began to pay more attention to it, to feel the music on a different way. Beside of listen to it I began to felt the need to make it ad play as well. That was the motivation that makes me to pik up the first instrument I found in my house, it happened to be an old keyboard which my father keep since years back. It was the instrument with which I learned to play my first songs.

In high school I had a class in electronics, there I met the members of who will from my first band. We played Rock and Roll, but our inexperience and our youth did make that project to last only six months.

Soon afterwards, I became member of a band called Akropolis (1988), Heavy Metal, we won the first prize on a contest organized by The Parque De Atracciones of Madrid (1989). We keep playing for a while but that didn't worked out neither.

The soloist singer and I decided to create Fuera de Lugar (1990). It was then when for the first time, thanks to the Music Association of Hortaleza, I had my first recording session in a professional recording studio. But this project didn't worked out neither so I took a break from the music for a while.
I spent a couple of years working in a gas station until I saved enough money to buy my first quality keyboard. Then began my term as musician playing at weedings, parties, hotels, and all over the place. I got tired of the tuxedo and formalities so I quit the dancing gigs.

During the same period I also worked in different jobs, but I keep playing and collaborating with several bands, Heavy, Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Rap... always with bands of whatever style that revindicates social justice.

Soon afterwards, now I am talking of the year 1993, I got a call from my cousin telling me he saw flyer in a rehearsals studios asking for a keyboard payer. I went to see what kind of music they where making. It was a rock band although no yet called Ska-p; it was its first formation.
I will like to thank to all the bands and all musicians with which I had play, I had share, and I had learned, specially to my father who was the one who taught me how to play my first note, To David, Jose y Rafa de Akropolis, Manolo (fuera de Lugar), Miguel Angel Collado, Tony López, Angel Luis Samos, Marco Rasa and a long so on, who were and still are my masters and my friends. I wont forget Pulpul, he not only contributed to enrich my musical knowledge but he also did make me see clearly the injustices of our planet scoria.

PIPI

I was born in Belmonte, a poor and multiracial neighbor of Madrid. Like all the kids of my age I was always thinking on playing football and to be with my friends, bogging around the vicinity and avoiding school duties. When I was 12 studding was not for me, something that now I regret, so I have to star to work with my father in his upholster workroom (kid games for me were over).
At the age of 15 I began to work in a bar that my parents opened a bar, they keep also the upholstery workroom. During this period of time I began to listen the music of Leño, Topo, Asfalto, Barón Rojo, e.g. Later I listened bands like La Polla Records (this is the band that I keep listening to up to date)

, Kortatu ,Mano Negra, Cicatriz, Reincidentes, Korroskada, Vomito Social, and Virus de Rebelión. The lyrics, the beat, and overall the message and the social commitment of these bands did touch me for ever.
I was 17 when I and a friend of my spend a year and a half working for a moving company. That was a hard job for little money. At 19 I started a job with my brother in a extinguisher company, we made the same pieces day after day. Fuck with the monotony. At 21 I went to work with a fried (well, almost my brother, he is Pulpul) to a heating and plumbing company where he was working since a few years back. I started as helper until I decided I could be my own boss.

At that time, each evening after work I will go to the rehearsal place in Vallecas where Pulpul , Julio, Kogote, Paco and Toni will practice hours and hours. I really had a fucking good time with them, we had cannabis, lot of beer, god vibe, and above all beat and diversion. During the small performing the had at the beginning I will go with them to load and unload the gear. It was a new world for me, but Id feel good.
It happened that in a break while a performance they asked me if I was capable of show up on stage dress up as a soldier provoking the audience and singing the chorus of the song. I did and the band loved it. Without realizing little by little I became member of the band.

I AM LIVING A DREAM THAT I HOPE IT WILL LAST FOR A LONG TIME....(Even thought some dislike of it)
